Summer Yay 2025: The Emotional Cost of Excellence

Dr. Loren M. Hill Season 5 Episode 52

Welcome to the annual Summer Yay episode! 🌞 In this special reflection, Dr. Loren M. Hill explores the emotional cost of excellence and invites high-achieving scholars and professionals—especially BIPOC first-gen leaders—to pause, breathe, and reclaim joy.

You’ll hear:

  • Why rest is not a luxury but a necessity
  • How burnout hides behind words like “innovation” and “resilience”
  • The hidden grief of being brilliant and unseen
  • A personal Summer Yay story about flowers, Miles Davis, and mindfulness
  • Five joy-centered practices to replenish your nervous system
  • A powerful reframe: You don’t need to earn rest. You are allowed to feel joy.

This episode is your invitation to reconnect with your humanity—one breath, one moment of stillness, one joy-filled act at a time.
